The Property – Self Catering Camp in the Timbavati
Opened in August 2016, Machaton Private Camp is an intimate and exclusive camp offering a secluded and private safari experience. Next, to owning a private safari lodge, there is no more private way to enjoy a safari in the Timbavati.
Accommodation – Accommodating up to 6 guests in total in 3 private luxury suites.
Three luxury suites in an intimate and secluded safari setting. Each suite offering a large en-suite bedroom, bathroom with an outdoor shower.

The Camp
The camp consists of a main building which features a lounge, kitchen and covered verandah, as well as 3 individual luxury suites. Each suite offers a large en-suite bedroom, a well-appointed full bathroom also with an outdoor shower, a dayroom with a sumptuous daybed and a large terrace with a newly fitted plunge pool, allowing you to retreat and refresh in secluded luxury. A 4th river view unit allows for the camp to accommodate 4 couples easily. It is a spacious king sleeper with a private patio and splash pool that overlooks the riverbed.
Dining experience
Dining is a highlight, with two talented chefs crafting gourmet meals from local, seasonal ingredients. Guests enjoy breakfasts with artisanal treats, light poolside lunches, and multi-course dinners served under the stars or by the boma fire. Dietary preferences are thoughtfully accommodated.
Relaxation & Safaris
Privacy is guaranteed, thanks to the careful placement of the suites and privacy walls, ensuring a tranquil and intimate stay. Safaris are conducted in Machaton Camp’s private 4×4 vehicle. Machaton Camp is booked as an Exclusive – Self Catering Use Only, including housekeepers, groundsmen and a ranger for your game drives.
Bookings can also be made to include a fully catered chef where all your needs are taken care of.
